01 · The Problem
What we set out to solve
Shoppers struggle to track spending while filling a cart. Barcode lookups feel clunky, and cloud-only vision services drain data and battery in supermarkets with patchy Wi-Fi. We see a gap for an on-device scanner that runs entirely on the phone.
02 · The Approach
How we built it
- 01Train a lightweight vision model on Philippine grocery SKUs (packaging, local brands, fresh produce) and ship it as a Core ML / TensorFlow Lite bundle.
- 02Capture frames continuously and confirm matches with a confidence threshold before adding to the running cart total.
- 03Cache a price catalog locally with periodic deltas so the app works offline at the shelf.
- 04Surface budget alerts, substitution hints, and a printable list at checkout.
